STATE CHORAL FESTIVAL
What is it? State Choral Festival is for choirs who have earned a Division I Rating at District Choral Festival! It is an honor to be invited to participate. Very few middle school choirs are invited each year and it is especially an honor for a 6th Grade Choir to be invited. Each choir will perform 3 musical selections in front of a panel of 4 judges. The judges for State Choral Festival are the most respected Middle School, High School and College Choral Directors in our state and country. In the past Anchor Bay Choirs have been adjudicated choral professors from U of M, MSU, Texas A&M, Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, St. Olaf's Choir College in Northfield, Minnesota and Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Each judge will give the choir written comments and 1 judge will give the choir verbal comments in a clinic situation immediately following the performance. Middle School Choirs do NOT receive a rating at State Choral Festival. The workshop with the adjudicator following their performance AND listening to other groups perform is the best part of this educational experience for our students. Participation in District and State Choral Festival raises the self-confidence level of the individual singers as well as the entire choir. It can help to instill a sense of pride in the choral program and the school. Volunteers: I will need at least 2 volunteers per choir to act as monitors on the school bus and to sit with the choirs in the audience when they are NOT on stage performing. To be a volunteer you MUST complete the district volunteer form, submit a photo copy of your driver's license and submit to a background check by Central Administration at least 10 days weeks prior to the event. ALL CHOIRS PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY AT STATES! Although middle school choir do NOT receive a Final Determination Rating, the judges do give scoring information so that we can figure where our choirs would fall on the Final Determination Scale. Three of the judges told the choirs: " You are the model for what a middle school choir should look and sound like."
