District 16 District Solo & Ensemble Festival
When: February 22, 2020
Where: Anchor Bay High School
Time: 7:45 am to 4:15 pm
Wear: Choir T-shirt and Khacki Pants, black shoes & black socks
Medals: earn a Division I or II rating? You can purchase a medal for $4.00. Cash only!
Registration Fees:
Solo (1 student) - $20.00
Small Ensembles (2 - 6 students) - $3.00 per student
Large Ensemble (7-20 students) - $2.00 per student
Registration Fees are due: January 22
What is Solo & Ensemble?
Solo & Ensemble is where student perform as a soloist, small group (2-6 singers), or a large group (7-20 singers) in front of 1 judge. Singers must prepare 2 songs if they would like to receive a rating. They will also receive written and verbal comments from the judge. They must sing songs from a required list. (Not pop, Broadway or Gospel.) Large groups will rehearse during class but soloists and small groups will need to work extensively OUTSIDE of class.
This is a GREAT opportunity for our students to get feedback from professionals and learn how to present themselves in a strong, confident manner.

- Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your singers warm up time. All students should gather in the cafeteria. Soloists meet Mrs. Root or Ms. C at your warm up room. Groups, wait in commons until 5 minutes before your warm up time. Then meet Mrs. Root or Ms. C at your the warm up room. They will be running from one event to another. Events will have a 15 minute warm up and a 15 minute performance time. The judge will give each event verbal and written comments. Singers should return to the cafeteria to wait for their scores to be posted. All scores will be posted on-line. Students can access their score using their cell phones. Directions will be hanging on posters on the wall of the cafeteria.
- Medals/Awards
- All ratings will be posted on-line. Students must enter their event name as it appears above. There is a first and last name for every event. Any group or soloist that earns the rating of Division I/Excellent can purchase a blue medal and any group or soloist that earns a Division II/Good rating can purchase a red medal.
- Listen to others
- Students are welcome to arrive early and stay after their event to listen to large groups in Room A.
- If the event is a small ensemble, duet or solo, the students must ask the performers permission to
- enter the performance room and listen. If the performer does not want an audience, then we must
- must respect their wishes.
